Veteran Shares Humorous Take on Marine Life, Military and its... Image Retired Marine Captain J.L. “Bigsby” Groom has recently released his satirical memoir, “American Cobra Pilot: A Marine Remembers a Dog and Pony Show,” a satirical but honest look at the shortcomings of the military based on what Groom experienced as a Marine captain.

“American Cobra Pilot” focuses on Groom’s first deployment to Korea and Japan, with each chapter highlight a part of the military that needs improvement. The entire storyline is set against the backdrop of American consumer society that has lost its way morally, financially and spiritually.

“My perspective on what I saw as wrong comes from my Christian view of man being bad in need of being made better,” the author said.

Throughout the book, Groom focuses on Korean military exercises he participates in, as well as the futility of these exercises. “Trump recently canceled the Korean exercises I talk about in the book,” Groom said. “During my time in the military it was very easy to see these were a waste of time anyway.”

Pacific Book Reviews describes “American Cobra Pilot” as “a [sic] excellent book with some guest appearances by Caroline Kennedy and two ‘inspirational’ speeches from John Kerry and good ol’ Chucky Hagel… Groom fights his way through this reality, personal heartbreak and what the military deems to be his unhealthy relationship with things that go boom!”

“American Cobra Pilot” will hold readers captive with Groom’s use of humor and retelling of real-life scenarios he experienced. Readers are sure to be intrigued by the relation to current events and humored by his story and point of view.
