Venita L. Blakely Pens MANAGING UP

Drawing from personal experience as an executive assistant, author Venita L. Blakely shares lessons on how assistants can maximize their relationships with their bosses. Through the concept of "managing up," Blakely says employees can perform their job at a higher level. "The overall theme of the book emphasizes one's intimate relationship with Jesus, which influences, impacts and actually dictates your work performance," Blakely says.

"Managing up" is the idea of stretching one's self within a company by going above and beyond the basic tasks assigned. The concept of "managing up" was conceptualized in a book by Rosanne Badowski. Blakely's book differs from this resource in its emphasis on a positive relationship with God first and foremost.

Blakely relies on 1 Corinthians chapter 12 as a cornerstone for her work. This chapter in the Bible concerns spiritual gifts and the different roles Christians can fill. She believes the information in this passage can be applied to bring more satisfaction and effectiveness to the workplace.
