Debut author Valerie Hernandez puts forward an essential tool to help children cope with their parent's separation and divorce in her debut book titled Phoebe and the Magic Snow Globe. A coming-of-age work of fiction about fantasies and self-discovery, this story whisks readers away to a faraway land where dreams come true with the help of magic and friendship.
At the heart of this book is the life of 12-year-old Phoebe. What with all the happenings surrounding her life, she is not only withdrawn and bothered, but has forgotten how to dream. Her father and mother are having problems with their marriage and have decided to go separate ways. Somehow, the innocent, little girl feels that it is all her fault.
When she pays her Grandma Mable a visit, she soon finds herself embarking on an adventure she will never forget. A magical snow globe takes Phoebe to a place where there is a war raging between fairies and halos. She befriends Plunkett - who is neither a fairy nor a halo, but a human just like her. Together, they try to find a way to stop the leader of the halos, Temalock, from destroying the world she arrived in. Phoebe, meanwhile, discovers a lot more things about herself and the decision of her parents.
A great book for kids that have to deal with separation and divorce of their parents, Magic Snow Globe helps younger children successfully navigate through this unsettling time. It aids them to identify and understand their thoughts and feelings as they are assured that both dad and mom will continue to love them.
