Uzoma Uponi Reveals WHISPERS FROM YESTERYEARS

Author Uzoma Uponi reveals the realities of contemporary African life in her new novel, "Whispers from Yesteryears: Book II in the ColourBLIND Series" (published by WestBow Press).

Set in Nigeria, West Africa, "Whispers from Yesteryears" is the sequel to Uponi's 2011 book, "ColourBLIND." A young girl, Urenna Okolie, disappears from home and is believed to be dead, an apparent victim of a tragic car accident. Eleven years later, someone from Urenna's past recognizes her at a conference and is surprised to see her alive and well.

After Urenna's cover is blown, a string of events is set off that reveal a decade of family and personal secrets. Over the course of the story, divine intervention eventually brings healing, truth, forgiveness and reconciliation between past hurts and present realities.

"This is my attempt to contribute to the African narrative and provide readers with a peep into day-to-day life in Africa," Uponi writes. "In the rush toward westernization, many traditional African values are being relegated as 'backwards' or 'native' and of no value in the modern society. I want to do my part to document our customs, traditions and to keep the memories alive."

About the Author

Uzoma Uponi was born in Nigeria and lives in Calgary, Alberta, with her husband and their four sons. She juggles her time between work, family, writing and the basketball court, where she is often spotted cheering on her sons during competitions. Uponi graduated from the University of Nigeria with a bachelor's degree in mass communication and an MBA. Her first novel, "ColourBLIND," was a finalist at the 2011 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Africa in the First Book category.
