Upcoming: SEVEN PILLARS ACTING Reading at the Samuel French Bookshop Image Samuel French Bookshop in Los Angeles is hosting a reading of SEVEN PILLARS ACTING by the author Sonya Cooke on Sunday, August 19th at 2pm. The reading will be followed by a Q&A session and a book signing with the author.

"To act is to transform with ease and authenticity." Sonya Cooke

Sonya Cooke is the creator of Seven Pillars Acting, a modern and comprehensive acting technique for professional actors, which is taught exclusively at her studios in Southern California: Seven Pillars Acting Studio in Los Angeles and the Actor's Studio of Orange County. In January 2018, her manifesto and textbook on the technique, SEVEN PILLARS ACTING, was published by Rare Bird Books. In her career, she has strived for a wholesome, creative, and specific process for crafting character, which led her to develop this fresh approach to acting. Seven Pillars Acting is reaching actors of all ages and backgrounds, and through rigorous study, Seven Pillars actors are reaping great opportunities in film and television. Presently, Sonya lives in Studio City where she is a working SAG-AFTRA actress and director. Originally from Texas, she has acted in tv, film, New York and regional theatre, as well as commercials, print, and voice-over media. She's a graduate from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and UC-Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts. She coaches privately in Los Angeles and Orange County as well as internationally through Skype. Sonya designs the Seven Pillars Acting curriculum, trains and certifies instructors, and is the master teacher at both schools.

SEVEN PILLARS ACTING details the cutting-edge, comprehensive, and effective technique that empowers the actor to, as Sanford Meisner said, "live truthfully under imaginary circumstances." Inspired by the great acting teachers of the last century, Seven Pillars Acting is a modern acting approach that turns novices into pros. Actors require a structured set of tools and a dependable process to access and cultivate their talents. The first comprehensive acting technique in forty years, Seven Pillars Acting is a system aimed at advancing the artist's authentic story-telling. Part theory and part application, Seven Pillars Acting is for the actor who not only wants a clear concept of acting but also seeks the steps to authentic character transformation. It is the goal of Seven Pillars Acting to instill in actors a technique that they can practice for a lifetime, without needing a teacher or guru to handhold the artist. Seven Pillars actors are endowed with tools they can use to craft characters and tell stories with full and autonomous artistry.

"This is a practical handbook for solving acting problems. It's not just for entry level actors; it's helpful no matter what your experience is. SEVEN PILLARS ACTING was helpful to me." -Mike Starr, "Frenchy" in GOODFELLAS

"SEVEN PILLARS ACTING is a comprehensive outline to the craft of acting. Its progression of exercises integrate many different approaches to acting, creating a step-by-step guide from listening and simple presence to camera-ready performance. Sonya Cooke's writing is very clear as she describes in detail the many elements an actor can use to make his work both truthful and dependable." -Stephen Wangh, author of AN ACROBAT OF THE HEART and THE HEART OF TEACHING

Starting at 2pm, this event is open to the public and hosted by the Samuel French Bookshop at 7623 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046. Actors, screenwriters, directors, as well as students of the studio are encouraged to attend to get to know the founder of the latest movement in acting training.
