SANTA BARBARA, CA
The campaign for "Luminous Sea", an underwater photography book, is gearing up to begin a crowdfunding campaign on the popular crowdfunding site Indiegogo. "Luminous Sea" is the third book in the Sea of Light trilogy, a series of high-quality coffee table books that feature photos taken from numerous underwater locales from the Equator to Alaska. These images were captured by Richard Salas, a professional photographer specializing in underwater photography.
Set to begin on June 25, the campaign will help secure the funds needed in order to produce the 156 page 12"x12", photography book and re-print the first book, "Sea of Light", which is currently sold out. The idea for creating a compendium of underwater photographs was created when Salas, a professional photographer for over 35 years, decided to combine his passion for diving with his love of photography. Keeping an open heart, Salas is able to approach an underwater creature in its natural habitat and capture its personality in a beautiful, candid photograph.
"Seven years ago, I decided that I wanted to create a series of photography books that documented the underwater life of the Eastern Pacific Ocean," says Salas. "Spending hundreds of hours underwater collecting images for these books has changed me, and I now have a strong bond of kinship with these animals. It's my hope to foster that same feeling in others through high-resolution photographs of them in their natural habitats."
The trilogy features underwater photographs of the eastern Pacific Ocean and it's inhabitants, from the Equator up to the coast of Alaska, with photos taken throughout the California's Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary, Galapagos Islands and the cold waters off Alaska. Featuring awe-inspiring photographs of these strange and beautiful beings, "Luminous Sea" offers readers an in-depth intimacy with a world that's rarely seen by most.
"The undersea world is full of never-ending color, texture and characters," says Salas. "Every animal down there has a unique personality. By capturing these images, I hope to give people an experience of the wonderful world that exists just a few miles off our coastlines."
In order to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of the world's oceans, fifty percent of "Luminous Sea's" future profits will be donated to The Ocean Foundation, an organization dedicated to the preservation of our seas.
