PHILADELPHIA

Bob Mannino warns of an impending political disaster facing America in his new politically charged novel, "Up from the Ashes" (published by iUniverse). Its storyline suggests the possibly devastating effects of political correctness and a lopsided three-branch government.

Mannino was inspired to write "Up from the Ashes" by his belief that elected government officials were not making responsible decisions for the future of America. He feels there is a lack of balance between the overreaching of an increasingly powerful executive and judicial branch collaboration at the expense of the legislative branch, which were chosen by the people to make the laws that govern them. The imbalance of these three branches of government, Mannino says, could create a dictatorial system of government in the United States if allowed to go unchecked.

Featuring a mysterious yet influential character nicknamed "Mother" and a young, female war veteran chosen by Mother to lead political military operations, "Up from the Ashes" serves as Mannino's commentary. Within its pages lies a fictional romp through an America on the verge of a second Civil War.

Mother and her young protégé are guarded by Vic, Mother's street-smart and long-time friend. But when the media physically and verbally attacks Mother's female disciple, Vic must find a way to keep her safe until she can save the nation from political disaster.

"My book is written from the ground up and not the top down," Mannino says. "It has the view of the average citizen, not someone who is part of the 'system,' be that system political, academic or otherwise. And it is not a political primer. It is a novel that is interesting and action-oriented; the politics is just one part of it."
