The Nantucket Book Festival is gearing up for its fourth annual event June 19- 21, 2015, which will feature a stellar roster of authors and a weekend of author readings, panel discussions, and social events. The Festival has just announced that the Typewriter Rodeo, a group of poets based in Austin, Texas, will be on hand to type custom poems on any subject at the Festival tent on Friday and Saturday.
The Typewriter Rodeo began in May 2013 after a group of Austin writers appeared at an area event in Austin; the enthusiastic reception received there propelled the formulation of the Typewriter Rodeo who has made appearances at over 40 events nationwide. This is their first appearance in New England . At the Nantucket Book Festival, attendees will have the opportunity to give the Typewriter Rodeo poets a topic, and they will create and type on a vintage typewriter a personalized, original poem in minutes. Members of the Rodeo have writing and performance backgrounds.
The Nantucket Book Festival is a multi-day cultural event created in 2012 by a group of dedicated volunteers to celebrate the rich literary history and community in Nantucket. Authors this year include Scott Turow, Anita Diamant, Ishmael Beah, and Azar Nafisi among many others. The Festival seeks to create and renew enthusiasm for books, connect authors with readers, and encourage a love of reading and writing in a younger generation through their partnership with the PEN/Faulkner Foundation Writers in Schools Program.
