Kay Ann Franklin is losing a lonely battle at home during World War II. Her terminally ill mother and her sick twins take most of her time and she has little left to give her baby daughter and her husband. When a crippled African-American girl offers to help, Kay finds an unexpected and wonderful light in young Say.
After Kay discovers that Say has exceptional musical talent, she begins to envision a bright future for the girl. However, a brutal attack and opposition from neighbors, friends and religious leaders threaten the opportunities Kay wishes to provide for Say. Discovering unlikely allies, Kay and a group of lady warriors embark on an unforgettable journey to help Say achieve her dreams.
Author Tommye Hamilton Wright wrote "You Are Cordially Invited to War" (published by iUniverse) to explore the lives of the women fighting their own personal and cultural wars at home during World War II. "I wanted to tell their story," Wright explains.
"I would like for readers to have more of an understanding of the challenges at home during World War II, and that there have existed mutually respectful, enjoyable and caring attachments between individuals of different races."
