In her new children's book, "Candy Goes Shopping" (published by Trafford Publishing), Tierney McMillian provides readers with a cheerful children's book about a girl named Candy and her shopping trip. "Candy Goes Shopping" has been selected for inclusion in the Trafford Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.

Candy loves to go shopping with her parents. While her father looks at fishing gear, her mother takes her on a shopping spree and to a restaurant for lunch. With her mother's gentle guidance, Candy learns to make good choices when it comes to purchasing items and choosing healthy meals.

McMillian, an experienced public school employee, shares her knowledge of child behavior through humor, laughter and the joy of learning. Together, parents and children can learn from Candy's adventure and understand how to empower one another in the decision-making process.

"My goal for this book is to educate children on how to make good choices and use their parents as guides," McMillian said.

Critics are responding positively to "Candy Goes Shopping." The U.S. Review of Books writes, "McMillian gives Candy the opportunity to select sweets at the candy counter and, with her mother's guidance, to purchase an unusual toy. While such lessons may seem small, undoubtedly they prove beneficial in helping a young child to make decisions, gain self-reliance, and be independent."
