Staunton, Va.
Written as a personal narrative, "Through the Valley of the Deep Darkness" (published by Trafford Publishing), demonstrates author Rev. Thomas Arner's journey to overcome the hatred spurred by the untimely death of his grandson.
In this gripping, true-to-life tale, Arner's daughter and her 1-year-old son are the victims of arson, purposefully committed by the child's father. The son perished in the fire; the mother barely survived, badly burned and emotionally scarred.
The scars also ran deep into Arner's soul, inciting a vicious hatred for what his son-in-law had done.
The book details Arner's journey to self-healing and forgiveness through the use of spiritual resources within his community. The relationships he formed with each resource - pious persons, places and things - guided him to a new realization of hope and religious rejuvenation.
Through his book, the author wants readers to understand that their faith will sustain and heal them during times of distress, even when revenge or spite fuels bitter anger and resentment.
