Author Mickey Mullen has had quite a life. He has gone from a debauched binger to something resembling a monastic teetotaler. He toiled on farms during the Great Depression, served in the U.S. Navy and bought and ran three businesses at the same time, all while drinking, swearing and boozing heavily.

In his new book "The Way, The Truth and The Life" Mullen describes the day he went unenthusiastically to a church service. He sat sour-faced in the back of the church, his arms folded in apathy.

"A woman came up to me and said, 'do you love Jesus?' I looked at her and I just told her no," Mullen said.

That is when something extraordinary happened

"As I sat in the back of the church, I began to feel very strange," Mullen said. "At the alter call, I asked God to help me as I approached. After leaving the church I got on a payphone. It was then that God gave me a new heart. I felt like I had been hit by lightening."

Mullen writes his memoir in order to show people that no matter how removed one gets from having a good life, when someone is lost and alone, he or she can still be turned around unexpectedly. In the book, he describes periods of his life and provides biblical passages that have had the most effect on him throughout his new life.

Although he has changed from his old ways, he is no stranger to controversy. Mullen uses his perspective as a Christian who has intensely studied the King James Bible of 1611 for years to offer warnings to other Christians to prevent them from going down the wrong path.

"As Christians it is of the utmost importance to live the Christian way that Jesus died for and not to be tricked into some of the new faddish but empty Churches," Mullen said.
