Author Philip Altman has fulfilled his long held desire to share his extraordinary and unique career experiences with others through the release of "The Shine of Life" (published by Xlibris UK). This inspiring memoir gives readers a rare glimpse of the many twists and turns of legal practice in London.
Altman's remarkable career in law in London led to recommendations, from which he gained unprecedented access to leading lights in politics and the trade unions. He warns about the many pitfalls that trap the unwary, even what happened to a High Court Judge. In this book, he recounts many fascinating events, beginning with a landmark case while articled, all the way through acting for such colourful clients as impresarios, actors, airline captains and members of both houses of parliament, to ultimately being chosen out of thousands of solicitors by the Prime Minister himself for his party's prestigious new London headquarters.
An excerpt from the book:
I suppose we have all heard the joke where a solicitor is walking down the road and spots a client going the other way. The solicitor shouts, "Good day!" and gets the reply, "Hello, how are you?" The solicitor replies, "Fine", and walks to his office where he prepares a bill stating "To attending you, and giving advice - ten guineas".
A motivating read, "The Shine of Life" reveals a unique professional career leading one remarkable man to unexpected elevated heights of people of standing in the community. It describes many legal pitfalls and highlights several odd situations in society, often in a humorous way.

About the Author
Born in London in the dark days of World War II, Philip Altman was always ready, as a youngster, to shine a light by helping others in very difficult times. Later he found his true vocation that, as a lawyer, he could do the very same for his clients. He earned his Bachelor of Law degree at London University and became a solicitor of the Supreme Court. Later, as a consultant solicitor, he continued influencing others for good such as supplying government with procedural innovations. Law students flocked round him for career advice and he has now retired with a vast experience of life and of some very unusual situations. Altman is married and still lives in London. As members of English Heritage and the Royal Horticultural Society, he and his wife enjoy visiting stately homes and gardens and never miss a flower show.
