"The Higgs Boson is forgotten," grumbled author Michael Raymond. "The biggest scientific discovery in a generation, and many people haven't even heard of it." CERN, the organization that discovered the Higgs Boson has since moved on to researching dark matter, another substance largely unfamiliar to the public. The author hopes to change that with his debut novel, 'The Robinsons' Dark Matter.'

It isn't hard-hitting science fiction by most standards. It's a more traditional young-adult adventure novel that takes place in the real world instead of one filled with vampires or wizarding schools. Parts of the story take place in locations like the Museum of Natural History in New York City and even the LHC, a giant supercollider critical to the discovery of the Higgs Boson. "The 'science' content isn't excessive, and in the grand tradition of science fiction I've taken a few liberties," the author acknowledges. The strategy is designed to keep readers engaged.

"Science is hard, but so are sports and video games. We play them because they're also fun. I want to tell a great story that leaves the reader with a spark in their imagination, ready to ignite when they come across some of these concepts in the real world," he said. "I'm not trying to teach science, or even to make it easy. I want to make it fun. Once it's fun, it's worth all the time and effort in the world."

The story is about a brother and sister in high school who discover their parents aren't quite what they seem. After both parents are abducted by zombie-like assailants armed with teleporting tazers, the siblings find themselves facing forging a tenuous alliance with a top-secret government agency in a race to save the planet and rescue mom and dad.

'The Robinsons' Dark Matter' is available in paperback (ISBN: 1489585265) and ebook. The Kindle version (ASIN: B00D2Y8BPC) hit the number one spot on Amazon's Teen Science Fiction Top 100 Free Best Sellers List shortly after release.
