Queens Library will host a special event for indie authors and those interested in self-publishing, on Saturday, January 24th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at its Forest Hills Branch, located at 108-19 71 Avenue, Forest Hills, NY 11375.

Speakers Include:

  • Brand expert, Forbes' columnist and marketing professor at NYU, David Vinjamuri, will provide a brief introduction to self-publishing followed by a more in-depth discussion on the continually evolving role of libraries in the book discovery process.
  • Queens Library's own librarian and author of The Brotherhood trilogy, Tejas Desai, gives his perspective as an author on self-publishing.
  • BiblioLabs and Library journal will have representatives on hand to talk about SELF-e, a revolutionary new platform that helps libraries shed light on aspiring indie authors.

"New York is a city of writers, ranging in experience from established to aspiring," said Queens Library Communications Director, Yves Etheart. "This event aims to share inspiration and knowledge on the publishing process. Queens Library is proud to be a leader in the movement of libraries and authors working together."

Queens Library is among the first library systems to make the SELF-e digital self-publishing platform available to its patrons free of charge. The innovative program, created by Library Journal in collaboration with BiblioBoard, offers indie authors and aspiring writers the opportunity to upload their ebooks, expand their readership, broaden their fan base and get discovered. Content submitted on the SELF-e platform will be evaluated by Library Journal and, if selected, appear in a curated collection of self-published ebooks showcased at participating libraries nationwide.

"By offering SELF-e, the library is providing writers an extraordinary resource to help them develop an audience," Etheart said. "We look forward to welcoming Queens' diverse writing community to Indie Author Day, where writers can learn first-hand about this new resource and more."

Mitchell Davis, founder and Chief Business Officer of BiblioLabs, is excited for the SELF-e platform to launch at such an impressive library, which serves over 2.3 million people at 62 locations. "Queens Library is revolutionizing how authors and libraries can work together to benefit each other, as well as its patrons. It's a privilege to work with such a progressive library and we look forward to a constructive dialogue and at the Indie Author Day," said Davis.

Indie Author Day will come to a close with an open Q&A discussion with all speakers. This event is free and open to the public.
