L. Ron Hubbard's detective mystery story "The Blow Torch Murder" will be performed two nights only, July 13 and 20, at the Golden Age Theater located in Hollywood. Doors open at 7:00 PM and show starts at 7:30PM.
Starring Vince Caso (The Guild-Bladezz), RF Daley (Big Miracle, Bridesmaids), Skip Harris (Sweeney Todd), Robert F. Lyons (Law & Order, Criminal Minds), Noelle North-Norris (Legend of Prince Valliant-Rowanne, Gummi Bears-Cubbi Gummy), Richard Reich and George Williams, "The Blow Torch Murder" is a tale about a cleverly devised murder that appears to have been done by a blow torch, and has a most uncharacteristic hero, Police Detective Ham Logan, who must solve the case.
The musical pre-show features music by Smooth Blend (Nancy Daley, Colleen McNamara and Sisu Raiken), with Neil Briggs on percussion.
Hubbard's detective mystery stories, as with adventure, were written with a working knowledge of the subject crafted from firsthand experience or thorough research. He interviewed a wide spectrum of law enforcement officials, police officers and federal investigators with which to create his hallmark authenticity. Detective fiction had very specific rules, and Hubbard's position was to do the exact opposite. In Hubbard's own words, "I always balked at writing detective stories as detective stories. So I used to take all the taboos in detective story parlance and patterns and write the exact reverse of the taboo, knowing then that I had a wide-open field. I knew then that it was original."
The Blow Torch Murder is one of 153 stories in the Stories from the Golden Age line of 80 books all written by Hubbard during the 1930s and 1940s-in genres ranging from Mystery to Thriller, Science Fiction and Fantasy to Adventure and Western, using his own and fifteen pen names-widely considered America's Golden Age of Fiction. The print version of each work includes the pulp fiction artwork that originally accompanied the story in magazine publication. In addition, each title offers a full-cast, unabridged audio theatrical presentation complete with theme music and sound effects. These titles are available wherever books are sold.
