Imagine having the chance to go back in time to experience firsthand one of the most tragic events in human history.

Drama Coach Susan Muth pulls from her passion for the human condition to create a one-of-a kind historical fiction bringing to life the events surrounding one of history's worst disasters, the 79 A.D. Mt. Vesuvius eruption. "The Beach at Herculaneum" keeps both history buffs and adventure seekers on their toes.

Built around complex characters that reflect the fragility of life and the strength of the human heart, "The Beach at Herculaneum" is a story about compassion, connectedness and courage.

Main character Anne McCarthy begins to have recurring visions of a woman who died in the 79 A.D. Mt. Vesuvius eruption. While in Italy looking for answers, McCarthy meets a handsome archeologist who helps her put together the pieces of the past. Just as she thinks she has a second chance at love, she must fight for not only her life but also the woman in her visions as Mt. Vesuvius begins spewing fire.

Muth's new book provides readers with a sense of continuity of human experience and the universal touchstones that give it meaning.

"Since childhood I have been fascinated with this historical period," Muth says. "The absolute pathos of so many lives suddenly ended strikes me as deeply significant and, in a strange way, life-affirming."
