Following a miscarriage, Tom and Brenda's lives change forever. Their marriage becomes strained. Brenda, dealing with deep-seated darkness and sorrow - and the knowledge she will never be able to have children - becomes depressed and cruel.
Tom sees a second chance with the adoption of twins Dillon and Donnie into their home. Little does he know that this unleashes Brenda's evil thoughts and feelings - leading to the sudden death of one of their children. Now, nobody is safe.
"Miscarriage, adoption and crazy people are all in society," Boyer says. "Miscarriage happens, families don't always cope well. Women are told they can never have a child... People adopt every day for many reasons and Brenda's reason is the main one. She can no longer conceive."
Boyer shares that her personal experience and those of others who have touched her life inspired the book.
