TRUE NORTH Author Tom North Announced as Keynote Speaker at Voices for Children, 9/26

Tom North, author of True North - The Shocking Truth about "Yours, Mine and Ours", will be the Keynote Speaker at Voices for Children - CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Annual Friends Luncheon in Monterey County, Thursday, September 26, 2013.

CASA for Children works tirelessly in communities to help abused and neglected children in the foster care and child welfare systems. Unable to live safely at home due to some form of parental abuse or neglect, these kids are at risk of languishing in group or foster homes, their futures dependent on the overburdened legal system.

Tom North remarks, "I am very happy to work with CASA on the national, state and county level. They are a wonderful organization who recruits and trains community volunteers to fight for these children, to make sure their basic rights and essential needs don't get overlooked or ignored by the system and work as quickly as possible to get them into the safe embrace of a loving home."

Child abuse and domestic violence creates a life of intimidation, confusion, fear and depression. True North - The Shocking Truth about "Yours, Mine and Ours", is Tom North's true story about growing up in the violent and abusive household of a famous family. It is an important literary work whose purpose is to advance discussion of this national epidemic; a discussion which is critical to the process of identifying solutions to a problem that will only grow if left alone.

Voices for Children - CASA Monterey County Executive Director, Siobhan Greene, states: "We are caring adults who speak up for children and youth who have had difficult life experiences, give a voice to children who are dealing with losses and loneliness, and uplift and encourage children who try each day-despite trials and tribulations-to be hopeful."

More than just a fundraiser, the Annual Friends Luncheon is an opportunity for attendees to learn about the program and hear directly from the youth who benefit from it. Greene adds, "In Monterey County, there are currently 80 children on the wait list. So we have a very, very serious need for people in the community to get involved."

Luncheon guests will also have an opportunity to meet Tom North at a special author/speaker "meet and greet" and book signing after the luncheon, and a portion of the proceeds of books sold at the luncheon will be donated to Voices for Children.
