After rigorous hours of decoding, retyping and editing the original manuscript left on smudged ink and onionskin paper, the journey of Lt. Col. William McKean Gilbert is finally shared to take readers to an alluring look back in time "THROUGH A PILOT'S WINDOW" (published by iUniverse). Evocative and exciting, this biographical narrative is "history in the making."

"THROUGH A PILOT'S WINDOW" charts the adventures of Gilbert piloting a B-24 bomber in the 9th and 344th Bomber Squadron in the Asian-Pacific, European and African Middle Eastern Campaigns during World War II (1942-1945). This book is an eyewitness account of dangerous missions written to make readers feel the same thrill of the moment with Gilbert and his crew as they worked together in combat.

This book, however, is not only about guts and warfare. What makes it particularly interesting were the author's observations when he was on the ground on leave, his take on the variety of people he lived among and the unfamiliar countries he lived in during a slice of time when Israel, then known as Palestine, was occupied by the British. To Gilbert, a kid from the Midwest, everything abroad seemed so strange, so new. His descriptions were always pointedly sharp and he left very little out. He wrote about everything: about guides and dancers, brawls and shrines, gambling and friendship, even about the half-Arab woman he lived with and most likely loved.

A candid and unique take on life and time that has built today's society, "THROUGH A PILOT'S WINDOW" lets readers experience the expedition of a WWII bomber pilot and crew and surrounding events and cultures.
