The Way I Heard It written by Arnie Marchand retells stories from Okanogan country that begins in his traditional territory in Wenatchee, North Central Washington and ends near Enderby in lower British Columbia. The stories included in this book are all part of the history of the area.
The seven bands of the Okanagan Indians of British Columbia include the Okanagan Indian Band, Upper Nicola Indian Band, Westbank Indian Band, Penticton Indian Band, Osoyoos Indian Band, Upper Similkameen Indian Band and the Lower Similkameen Indian Band; the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation consists of 10 original bands which all spoke Nsyilxcn the Okanogan language. The Palus and the Nez Perce bands were added to Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.
Marchand himself, is an Okanagan Indian and a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. His Indian name is ML KNOOPS, which means eagle and his Christian name is Arnold N. Marchand. He arranged his stories in a way that readers will travel with him on an adventure through time and include stories of places and events.
The Way I Heard It will educate, delight and inform readers with various tales some reflect the history of the Okanogan peoples.

Arnie Marchand's father whose name is George Paul Marchand is from the Okanagan Indian Band #1. His mother, Sophie Alice Verdan Marchand is from the Penticton Indian Band. Arnie is an Okanagan Indian and a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, His Indian name is ML KNOOPS which means eagle. His Christian name is Arnold N. Marchand.
