WALSALL, England
A deep desire to write for his beloved grandchildren and to tell a story of prejudice, in a light but creative way using objects that are unusual, has prompted author Rob C Blyth to relate "The Story of Cristal Rouge" (published by Xlibris UK). His debut publication, this colorful book aimed at young readers seeks to teach them through example and enrich their imagination with a colour-based read.
Cristal Rouge is a ballpoint pen, and as people know, ballpoint pens come in different colours and have a limited life. Cristal passes to different people during her life. She is worried that she has only a short time to live because her ink does not last as long as other ink pens. When she met nasty pens called Nosey Parker and James Green, her dilemma became complicated. With her friends, however, she makes the best of a hard world where expensive pens are held with high regard. Just when her world seems at an end, she is rescued.
For Blyth, allowing children to see a small part of the world from an unusual perspective teaches them an important life lesson without having to be obvious. His story also enables young readers to discuss with teachers and parents the valued points Cristal Rouge's tale stands for.
"I want readers to accept the idea that we have only a certain time to live, that colour or defect should be considered different, and how things should be approached leniently in life," Blyth on what he wants readers to learn from his book, "That there is hope and always someone who is prepared to give us a second chance."
