New York, New York

The French thriller writer David Khara, whose adrenaline-pumping The Bleiberg Project was a runaway best-seller in France, now has a second title available in English: The Shiro Project.

Both are part of the Consortium thriller series, which stemmed from one question: What impact could the folly of World War II-death camps, medical manipulation and chemical warfare-still have today? The series juggles with time and place in a potent mix constructed around flashbacks. But chase scenes, gunfights and explosions are only one part of the story. The main theme of the whole series is resistance and what makes people great. With a hero who is a mixture of Highlander and James Bond, bent on justice, entertainment is part of the blend.

In The Shiro Project, a Mossad agent's mentor is kidnapped just when the entire population of a small town in the Czech Republic is inexplicably wiped out. The operative is forced to team up with his nemesis to stop the destruction. What do Japanese war camps, US Army research and that annihilated modern-day village all have in common? What impact could the folly of World War II-death camps, medical manipulation and chemical warfare-still have today?
