CHATHAM, N.J., Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ The Secret Life of Walter Newkirk is a new book outlining a story of 17 years of misdiagnosis and over medication. The author was labeled "bipolar" which led to a breakdown of his private life and 4 hospitalizations. The story spotlights the problem with depression medications and how the medical system deals with unique individuals. Newkirk recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, stopped the depression meds and now has control of his health and is living happily drug free.

Background: Before shows like "Modern Family" and "Will and Grace" television historically did not portray gay characters. In 1973 the first openly gay person in TV history was a real person - LANCE LOUD in the PBS series "AN AMERICAN FAMILY". The impact on gay people, of all ages hiding in the closet was profound. Now a new book from one of those people illuminates the struggle to break free from the oppression and bullying that threatened to destroy his life.

Author WALTER NEWKIRK rose to become a successful publicist even while doctors kept him medicated and quietly in the closet as "bipolar". The story, often funny and shocking will have readers laughing through their tears. It is a story of triumph over great odds and filled with hysterically funny stories about this long and winding road. The Secret Life of Walter Newkirk
