Author Dolores Marie Patterson tells a story about God's redeeming love, healthy relationships, forgiveness and acceptance in her new historical Christian romance novel, "The Schoolteacher and the Bad Boy" (published by Abbott Press).

Patterson, a transplant from the Pacific Northwest who has lived in Arizona for the past 30 years, was inspired to write "The Schoolteacher and the Bad Boy" after visiting Wickenburg, Ariz. When she saw J. Seward Johnson's bronze statue, "The Schoolteacher with Luggage" outside the town's historical railway station, her imagination took off. "Instantly, I knew it was this young woman's story I was destined to write," she recalls.

"The Schoolteacher and the Bad Boy" takes readers back to 1905 and introduces them to Sarah Wendal, a 17-year-old girl who is forced to leave everything that is familiar to her, board a train and travel across the United States to be a schoolteacher in Wickenburg.

It doesn't take Sarah long to realize that being involved in the lives of young students is a lot more than reading, writing and arithmetic. As the school year progresses, Sarah becomes entangled in a romantic triangle and learns that relationships of all kinds present opportunities for character development and spiritual growth.
