Author Wendy Lyle-Jones issues a call to action, urging absent fathers to return to their sons and heal their father-son relationships in her new book, "The Father Factor: The Missing Link between God and Our Sons" (published by Lulu).
Using the father-son relationship between God and Jesus Christ as a template, Lyle-Jones illustrates the power she believes God gave all men to be fathers. She uses passages from Scripture to further show how biblical fathers made all the difference in their sons' lives.
"Just as God held Adam accountable for the spiritual condition of his family," Lyle-Jones says. "God still holds the husband and the father accountable for the spiritual condition of the family today."
Fathers, she says, are meant to be spiritual leaders in their homes, and young men will better understand their relationship with God with their fathers' help. As an educator, she witnessed some of the negative effects of growing up without a father through her students.
In her book, Lyle-Jones candidly speaks with four men, all of whom had absent fathers. They speak from the heart, revealing what they went through growing up without fathers. They want other fathers, who have forsaken their posts as teacher, mentor, friend, hero and cheerleader, to hear just how hurt they were because of their fathers' absences.
In her final words, Lyle-Jones offers a prayer for sons, fathers and single mothers. She prays for fathers to establish themselves in their children's lives so that a legacy of faith may be passed from one generation to the next.
Lyle-Jones offers advice to fathers looking to strengthen their relationships with their sons. With her book, she hopes to remind fathers of the important role they play in their sons' lives and of their duty to be spiritual leaders in their homes.
