PHOENIX, April 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ A local teacher has been released by the Madison School District after he published a book on his experiences and insights as a special and general education teacher.
Derek Stooks, a teacher with the district for eight years, recently published The Devil's Name is George: Confessions of a Public Education Teacher through Amazon. Stooks wrote the comedic memoir to share his oftentimes unbelievable experiences of classroom antics as well as give his thoughts on how the current educational system should be overhauled to better support learning.
Two months after the book was published, Stooks was informed that his current position as a substitute teacher would be terminated. The reason given to him was that he was distributing copies of his book on campus, as well as the language and content of the book. Stooks was on a year sabbatical as a full-time history teacher at the time of the publishing.
