About the Author

John Berryman studied African, Colonial and Commonwealth History at London (SOAS) and Ibadan (Nigeria) Universities. He pursued graduate courses at the Universities of Oxford (St. Edmund Hall) and Nova (Fort Lauderdale, USA). He is a local (lay) preacher and organist in the Methodist Church, and has acted as a Scout Leader. A Justice of the Peace, he is a serving magistrate. He has served as Secretary-General of the Bahamas Union of Teachers, and Chairman of the Eastbourne branch of the former Transport and General Workers Union (now Unite).Having previously worked in Belize, The Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Islands (British West Indies), he presently teaches History, Religious Studies and Philosophy at Bede's Secondary School in Hailsham. Married, with children, he lives near Battle in Sussex, where his ongoing commitment to education is acknowledged in his role a Parent Governor at Catsfield Church of England Primary School.
