JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.
Much like political pundits would battle over policy changes, members of the scientific and Christian communities seem to think only their worldview of how the universe was made and how it works today can be "right". Is there no room for a middle ground or agreement?
Eddie D. Leach, Ph.D., a proud member of both communities, explored both ideologies and discovered they actually work hand-in-hand. His new book, "The Bible and Science: Unity Not Opposition," sheds light on how science and the Bible work together to give a better understanding of God's messages to humankind.
"God created all the components of the Universe and all life forms, including man," Leach said. "He also created man's ability to think and investigate. As time progressed, God revealed more and more of His plan for mankind through our continued research of His creation and our greater in-depth study of his Word."
Leach became a Christian as a teen at the same time he discovered his fascination with science. He received his Ph.D. in zoology, which was funded by NASA, before moving onto teach college-level courses and participate in research that would lead to many patents.
While working in science, Leach soon realized that if both the Bible and science come from God, then both must be true as long as they are properly interpreted and understood. From this point on, science helped complement and strengthen his Christian beliefs. He has spent more than 60 years studying, researching and honing the messages included in "The Bible and Science: Unity Not Opposition."
"God left behind "fingerprints" and "footprints" during His creative process that previous generations couldn't see," Leach said. "We live in a wonderful time because now as we study His words we can begin to pair them with our discoveries in His science, which reveals a more complete understanding of all of God's wonderful message to us."
