Author Sylvia Lyon Rodman gives her readers something new and substantial as she takes them on a refreshingly unpredictable journey through her fascinating literary breakthrough work. In The Anglo Brambles, she pens an irreverent, hilarious and utterly original exploration of the vicissitudes of multicultural experiences that are faced by all (even the most confident) immigrants that will surely absorb the readers.
The Anglo Brambles, a captivating narrative set in the early 1970s, is a mordantly witty look at the pitfalls awaiting a wealthy South American family, the Buenaventuras, who flees political turmoil only to find conflicts of a different kind in the United States. Confident that their fortune was bound to make their transition a simple one, the Buenaventuras were ill prepared for the spiny issues that would arise at every turn. With incisive perspicacity, the author shows her readers how cultural traditions and social mores find expression in seemingly inconsequential day-to-day experiences. Unlike traditional rags-to-riches immigrant stories, this account anchors itself in unabashed humor to uncover the presumed innocuous, though profoundly irritating, common-day cultural clashes that confront immigrants worldwide.
Blurring the lines between writer, reader and characters, the author gives the readers a unique literary experience that will challenge their imagination, toss them with surprises and offer them significant lessons worth emulating in The Anglo Brambles.
