Like many children of yesterday, author Sylvia Lemmond spent much of her youth listening to radio programs about the adventures of cowboys and Indians in the Wild West. Now she looks back to her childhood to create a new narrative featuring a young Native American offering encouragement to readers, "Gentle Spirit" (published by AuthorHouse).

Gentle Spirit hasn't spoken since birth, yet she finds wonderful ways in which to teach and encourage others. With her stick in hand, she meets the world head-on and rises above every circumstance to give both love and inspiration to those around her.

Having lived in a tent as a child from the age of 7 to 13, Lemmond was forced to be self-encouraging to get through her rough upbringing. Now a Sunday school teacher and banker of over 25 years, she has penned "Gentle Spirit" to let young readers realize they have something to offer, no matter their background or abilities.

"If you can imagine it, you can make it happen," Lemmond says.
