Author Susan Sperling Brock candidly takes readers through her journey of personal failures to reveal her spiritual and emotional route for building healthy relationships in her new book, "The Promised Land: How Doing Your Homework in Your Wilderness Leads to Healthy, Lasting Relationships" (published by WestBow Press).

As Brock looked for help in recovering from her own broken relationships, she realized that to break the patterns of poor spiritual and emotional health and build more healthy relationships with others she would need a renewed relationship with God.

"There's a forest of lives and marriages going up in smoke," Brock says, "but if we don't do our 'homework' - as seen in this book - we end up in the same type of relationships again and again."

Relating the story of Moses leading the slaves out of Egypt to "a land flowing with milk and honey," Brock explains her understanding of God's will. She says he wants to take his people out of the dry and thirsty land of empty, unfulfilling, broken relationships to a land filled with the milk and honey of abundantly full and intimate relationships with him. She expounds that a good relationship with God will show readers how to develop good relationships with others.

"This book provides the stair steps to recovery, renewal and an in-depth means of attaining intimacy," Brock says, "first with our Heavenly Father, and then with the significant people in our lives."
