Famous works of art are often the first to be discussed in art classes, galleries and social circles. But new author Sue Jones wants to change the content of viewers' discussions. In "A Heart for Art" (published by Trafford Singapore), Jones shares her global experiences in art appreciation and offers readers a guide to analyzing new pieces, not just legends.

"Art is global, not just European or American," Jones argues. "People often judge art without any knowledge and think, 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' Art should involve research, which will lead to understanding and a 'heart for art.'"

Featuring numerous works of art from across the globe - Australia, the Americas, Africa and Asia - Jones' book shows readers lesser known pieces of art, aiming to expand readers' artistic awareness.

The book is organized into four main groups of art: pictorial, sculptural, architectural and craft with references to fashion and photography.

Jones offers examples of each type of media, explaining the history behind each piece, its creator's original inspiration and the style or period of the piece.

"Creative people are producing new pieces every day," Jones says. "Let's start researching what's new and not just the known."
