Stephen Kendall Releases 'Travels of a Pink Slouch Hat'

Travelers by nature, authors Stephen Kendall (now deceased) and his wife Lynn Kendall share their journey aboard the Holland America Cruise. Presented with humor and candor, this diary of their journey which they call "Travels of a Pink Slouch Hat," because Stephen and the 'hat' seldom parted company and caused so much mirth!

"Lynn and I went to Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. While there, we visited Hastings Street. A mild moment of Retail Therapy kicked in for Lynn and she just had to buy me a Pink Aussie slouch hat. "How ridiculous", said I in loud tones, but as every husband will understand, common sense prevailed and I ended up wearing the "Aussie Pink Slouch Hat". This is the story of the travels of the pink hat. I wore it with pride for 19 days on the good ship 'Volendam', with a week in Singapore at the beginning and a week in Japan at the end."

Aboard the cruise ship Volendam of the Holland America Cruise line, the two went to visit the naturally and culturally rich lands of the Southeast and East Asia. Sort of a travel diary, this book narrates in detail what adventures they had, the shops they stopped by, the animals that caught their attention, and the people who were obligingly willing to show them their unique culture.

Telling a picturesque day-to-day account of their travels to Singapore, Cambodia, Bangkok, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, and Japan, Stephen and Lynn Kendall imparts a beautiful vacation filled with wonderful experiences in such places that readers will, in a way, have a glimpse of the lands they visited and may be convinced to take on the next cruise to those places!

About the Author

Stephen Kendall was born in England in 1934, came to Australia in 1968 and passed away in 2012, the year following the trip this book describes. He was not able to complete the last chapter of this book and his wife, Lynn, completed and published it in his memory. He is survived by five children and 9 grandchildren. He was greatly loved by all for his humor, his encouragement to others, and his kindness and is greatly missed. His main hobby was sailing, for pleasure and in competitions and in later years, travelling to many different countries.
