According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration roughly 1,200 tornadoes touchdown in the United States every year. In 2011, a tornado went through Ashville, Ala., leaving hundreds of homes destroyed. One of those homes was that of Stacy Landry, who details her struggle against nature and the recovery that followed, in her new book "April 27, 2011, The Day My Life Changed: A True Testimony from Being a Victim to Being a Survivor" (published by AuthorHouse).

While many books covering tornadoes have been written, Landry hopes the fact that she, herself, is a survivor of a tornado will set her book apart and offer readers a unique perspective.

"My book is different because I am the survivor. I am the writer. I am the character of the events," Landry says.

Through weathering the storm and writing "April 27, 2011, The Day My Life Changed," Landry hopes to not only help outside readers understand what someone goes through in a tornado, but to inspire others to find strength and courage through those around them, and through faith.

"It shows and teaches others that you can go from being a victim to being a survivor," Landry writes. "It's very heart-felt and inspiring for everyone to understand that God takes control of all situations."
