St. Louis County Library Foundation's Pacesetter Author Series presents Howard G. Buffett and Howard W. Buffett for a discussion of their new book "40 Chances: Finding Hope in a Hungry World." The event will be held on Monday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

The program is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Books for signing will be available at the event from Left Bank Books. The event will be an onstage interview followed by questions from the audience.

If you had the resources to do something great in the world, what would you do? Legendary investor Warren Buffett posed this challenge to his son in 2006, when he announced he was leaving the bulk of his fortune to philanthropy. Howard G. Buffett set out to help the most vulnerable people on earth-nearly a billion individuals who lack basic food security. Howard has given himself a deadline: 40 years to put more than $3 billion to work on this challenge.

"40 Chances" chronicles Howard's journey as a philanthropist, a photographer, and perhaps most importantly, as a farmer with a deep understanding of what it takes to produce food in difficult conditions. But he applies the lessons he learns to everyone: We each have 40 chances to accomplish our goals in life, whatever our passions may be.

Beginning with Howard's love of farming, readers join him and his son and co-author, Howard W. Buffett, as they travel the world seeking out new approaches to ease the suffering of so many. In 40 stories that provide readers a compelling look at Howard's life, ranging from his own farm to some of the most dangerous places on Earth, "40 Chances" will inspire readers to realize that our time to follow our passions is finite.

Howard G. Buffett is the Chairman and CEO of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, a private family foundation working to improve the standard of living and quality of life for the world's most impoverished and marginalized populations. A farmer, businessman, philanthropist, photographer, and former elected official, Howard has dedicated his life to addressing global food insecurity and conservation.

Howard W. Buffett is a lecturer in International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, where he teaches management techniques for improving the effectiveness of foreign aid and global philanthropy. He is a trustee of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and previously served as the Foundation's Executive Director.

This program is a St. Louis County Library Pacesetter Author Series presentation. Featuring books by or about business, education, and cultural leaders, the Pacesetter Series presents several programs each year with visiting writers. The event is sponsored by Maryville University.
