Sports Fiction Depicts High School Football in Wisconsin Image In the tradition of "Friday Night Lights," novelist Janson Mancheski presents his newest work of fiction that shows readers the world of high school football and the challenges young people face in "The Scrub."

The book depicts the lives of three teens, each facing insurmountable challenges. Janus Mann is at odds with his football coach; his best friend Barnaby is being bullied by his physical therapist; and Asha's life is controlled by her alcoholic father. Nevertheless, the three friends remain determined to achieve success.

"I wrote this book as a fictionalized account of real-life incidents that happened to me in high school," said Mancheski. "Having lived a life immersed in athletics, I was inspired to write in the sports fiction genre."

The story shines light on high school life, ripped open like a scab, where people can reach soaring heights; or just as easily be beaten down into a dark pit of despair.
