Author Carmel C. Solano pens an inspirational book packed with optimism and hope. Titled The End of the Row, he chronicles the challenges and ordeals he endured in his quest to become a better man. This book is a remarkably revealing historical account of his life while growing up as a migrant worker in Northern Colorado.
Solano was inspired to write this autobiography on account of his profound interest in history and self-improvement. As a migrant worker earlier in his life-although he was born in the United States-he believes this sect of the workforce deserves a change to live decent conditions knowing no one else in this country will do the kind of work they render.
The author was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico in July of 1940. His family then moved to Colorado, when he was four years old. At seven, he started working as a migrant farm worker. Challenges were not new to this determined lad. At sixth grade, he was forced to leave school. It was an advantage to his family to be out in the grounds rather than in four-walled classrooms. On top of that, he was the oldest of a family of 11. To escape the confines of the fields and the monotonous work, he grabbed the chance to enlist in the military when he turned 17. He was lucky to pass the entrance examination with only a sixth grade formal education.
This book illustrates many facets of the author's life: the seemingly endless ordeals, his impressive transition from a farm boy to an erudite, prude man, and the achievements he reaped in the lifelong process. This is an inspiring story of his life, his family and the people who made an impact on his values and how and why he wanted to change his life for the better.
An exceptional and uplifting read anyone will revel in, The End of the Row emphasizes that anyone can do what they set their mind into.
