The author was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico in July of 1940. His family then moved to Colorado, when he was four years old. At seven, he started working as a migrant farm worker. Challenges were not new to this determined lad. At sixth grade, he was forced to leave school. It was an advantage to his family to be out in the grounds rather than in four-walled classrooms. On top of that, he was the oldest of a family of 11. To escape the confines of the fields and the monotonous work, he grabbed the chance to enlist in the military when he turned 17. He was lucky to pass the entrance examination with only a sixth grade formal education.

This book illustrates many facets of the author's life: the seemingly endless ordeals, his impressive transition from a farm boy to an erudite, prude man, and the achievements he reaped in the lifelong process. This is an inspiring story of his life, his family and the people who made an impact on his values and how and why he wanted to change his life for the better.

About the Author
Carmel C. Solano owned a haircutting business for 50 years at the time this book was published. He attended Barber College in Denver, Colorado, and married Judy Barela and settled in Fort Collins in 1964. During his time in Fort Collins, he was a candidate for city council, a member of the Human Relations Commission, on the Fort Collins Museum Board, president of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, president of the Chicano Advisory Board for Poudre School District, treasurer for the PTA at St. Joseph's School, as well as a member of many civic organizations over the years. Mr. Solano has given many presentations about Migrant Life at CSU, Poudre School District, Fort Collins, and Loveland Historical Societies and for the Museo del las Tres Colonias located in Fort Collins, Colorado.
