According to http://www.childhelp-usa.com, children who are victims of abuse are nine times more likely to become involved in any type of criminal behavior. Sissy Mills, author of the new book "Layers Of Sorrow" (published by AuthorHouse), is a survivor of abuse and neglect who managed to avoid joining this statistic.

"Layers Of Sorrow" tells Mills' life story, beginning with her earliest memories of her abusive father and detailing her experiences up to the present day. Her story is one of neglect, abuse, violence, substance abuse, cancer and death. While it won't be an easy read, Mills hopes it will inspire readers to see how she dealt with each situation, and to see where she is today.

An excerpt from "Layers Of Sorrow":

"How do you apologize for being born? Even if you could think of something to say, deep in your heart you know you weren't wanted.
Nothing can ever change that fact. I know how she felt that day, I know how hard it was to hold back the tears, I know how much she hurt hearing that because I was the little girl he said it to."
