NEW YORK, Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ The book "The Shattered Lens" just released and published by Simon& Schuster, is a must read, chilling, gritty, action-packed and unvarnished firsthand account of war, captivity, loss and survival from a war correspondent who lived it.

Authored by prolific and well known war photographer Jonathan Alpeyrieand Stash Luczkiw, with acclaimed Hollywood film, TV producer and casting director Bonnie Timmermann, The Shattered Lens is Alpeyrie's amazing true story of being kidnapped and held for ransom by Syrian rebels for 81 days prior to his nail biting negotiated release. KirKus Reviews calls the book a "gripping account of life in captivity and humankind's ongoing relationship to war."

Alpeyrie's survival during his captivity depended on connecting with the humanity of his captors. Thus began a story of love-hate relationships with each of the men holding him hostage, learning each of their personalities, quirks, hopes and fears, as well as Alpeyrie's endurance of physical and psychological torture during his captivity.

As the Syrian Civil War still rages on and makes daily headlines, Alpeyrie proves to be an authentic voice of knowledge and insight into the conflict in Syria. He provides an in-depth firsthand understanding of the people, factions, forces and cultures igniting this violent ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Alpeyrie is no stranger to war reporting, traveling to over 30 countries, and covering 13 war zones including East Africa, the South Caucasus, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South America and Central Asia. He has recently worked for Polaris Images, Getty Images, Sipa Press, Vanity Fair and Elle Magazine International. His work has been published in the New York Times, Paris Match, Time Magazine, Newsweek, Boston Globe, BBC, and other media. Since his abduction in Syria, Alpeyrie has continued covering countries in conflict, traveling to Iraq, Venezuela and Ukraine.

Stash Luczkiw is an editor at Longitude, a monthly geopolitical Magazine. Bonnie Timmermann is a film producer and casting director who has worked on more than 90 productions. Her credits include Heat, The Insider, The Last of the Mohicans, Carlito's Way, Black Hawk Down, and the television series Miami Vice.
