Each person holds a place dear in their heart, one that brings up memories of pure joy or realizations that life is indeed beautiful. To author Sidney L. Trapp, Genoa Ridge in Wayne County, West Virginia, is such a place and in her new book, GENOA RIDGE, she recalls exhilarating episodes from her childhood, the memories made and the lessons learned on their family farm in the Appalachian Mountains.
This memoir gathers well-told tales of Trapp's youth, particularly the summers she spent at her grandparents' farm in Genoa Ridge in the 1950s. It was then and there that she discovered a world of imagination and exploration. Also, she learned to appreciate her family and what they taught her. She saw how her grandmother opened her heart and home to her grandchildren and her grandfather, by example, taught them values of discipline and proper work ethics. The heart of this book lies in the essential truth that it is always good to look back to one's past- the journey that brought them to where they currently are.
"I believe in learning about where we came from, what we did, can bring a value to today's society. We cannot forget where our roots lie and those who planted them," Trapp shares.
Honest and heartwarming, GENOA RIDGE is a true story of life, love and family and a glimpse into life in Appalachia during the 1950s.
