From author Shukrije Pllana comes Lucky's Tree, a story of war and history set in 21st century in the Balkans - Eastern Europe in a place once called Yugoslavia. It stunningly reflects a harrowing, yet insightful journey of courage, determination and endurance in the face of unspeakable adversity and turmoil. Readers will take an up-close and personal glimpse into the journey of three young lads who learn life's lessons in unimaginably mature ways.
Absorbing and utterly moving, this story introduces Don, his dog, Lucky, and his two friends Dardan and Arber. They paint a picture of the upsetting effects of war especially to kids who are deprived of a favorable atmosphere to fully grow and realize their potentials. This book communicates the message that everywhere in the world, children are the same, having the same needs and desires but unfortunately, the circumstances where they live are different.
This story tells of an innocent boy who happened to experience the political trouble in his country. Despite his uncorrupted attempts to avoid the bedlam that was created in his family during the war, the situation proved difficult to isolate as it wasn't only affecting him, his family, or his entire community, but it was affecting his beloved dog as well, who was left alone in the house when everyone else were forced to leave the village. The situation made three young boys grow older by synergizing and supporting each other while observing to see Lucky from the far distance.
Depicting both the spirit of the time and the individual endeavors of people to live a peaceful, normal life in war-ravaged land, Lucky's Tree is a mind-expanding work of fiction highlighting the importance of friendship, family and the resilience of the human spirit.
