Shanda Ramnarine and Otis Lauritz Gibbs Celebrate Music in New Book

Shanda Ramnarine and Otis Lauritz Gibbs celebrate music everyday of their lives and work tirelessly to spread music to young children. Their new Spanish children's book, "Somos las Estrellas de la Música" (published by AuthorHouse), highlights the importance of music in a child's life and the positive effects on a child that happen as a result of learning a musical instrument.

"We have many kids entering middle school and high school, and their music education is so poor it's unbelievable!" exclaims Ramnarine of the education system. "Kids really like music, but a lot of them do not want to put the time and effort into learning an instrument well, only enough to get a few licks that sound like they actually know what they're doing."

On the beautiful island of St. Crois, Zack and Epi are twins with a famous musician for a father, Khadijo. As they begin to explore his life, the two develop a deep appreciation and love of music. They learn to play the xylophone and flute and join their father on stage for a reggae and jazz concert.

Ramnarine hopes the book will inspire children to pick up an instrument. She explains, "I want the readers to know that as a musician and writer, we need to take a stand in improving out music education within our children's lives and our own."
