Scott Seldin's new book, "Mentoring Human Potential: Student Peer Mentors as Catalysts for Academic Success" (published by iUniverse), is being hailed by educators as a breakthrough how-to manual for creating and supervising an effective, holistic student peer mentoring program at college level. His book covers every aspect of successful mentoring, providing the reader with a field-tested model for creating a program that will increase student retention, persistence and wellbeing.

Seldin guides mentoring program supervisors, step-by-step, through their responsibilities, procedures, mentoring boundaries and program goals. He provides them with a comprehensive, interactive workshop for their mentors. Supervisors can give Seldin's workshop themselves, or they can contact him directly and have him give his one-day training workshop. Included in Seldin's book are forms and checklists that can be used by program participants.

An excerpt from "Mentoring Human Potential:"

"How do we mentor human potential in our daily lives, in our communities and schools? By living a life of love and service that gently breaks down the self-defining, self-limiting, self containers that prevent us from living with conscious awareness of our unique place in our infinitely mysterious universe.

We mentor our human potential by living with humility and awe, the only appropriate response to our existence in a cosmic crucible of time, space, and matter whose scale dwarfs the human imagination."

"Mentoring Human Potential" has received laudatory reviews from educators and authors, who praise its pioneering, holistic approach to student peer mentoring.

DeeAnn Vonde, of the online Peer Bulletin, says, "The ideas in this book will certainly meet the needs of anyone considering the delivery of a mentoring program in a university setting. For those of us who are delivering mentoring programs in high schools it provides examples of strategies that we can incorporate into our ongoing programs and trainings."

Renowned writer Ann Beattie says, "'Mentoring Human Potential' by Scott Seldin is an unbelievably wonderful, generous, inspiring book. I haven't been so interested in a book in a really long time."
