Life is much like fine wine, fermented through the years by people met, and the experiences and emotions one undergoes as time passes. Sarah Louise Scott shares a glassful with her readers, as she recounts her life in the verses of The Lava and Ash.

Collected over the last decade, Scott's compilation was written in most of Australia's states while she was travelling. She frequently contemplates upon nature, her thoughts, writ in ink, reflecting a longing to be one with the natural world. Her rhymes and verses are oft whimsical and dreamy, while some are stark in their brooding ruminations, a contrast befitting The Lava and Ash. The title evokes visions of the intense heat of molten rock from within the earth's core, and the grey dust that comes in the lingering silence after the fiery outpouring. Her works are nonetheless imbued with hope, a belief that things will get better, that life will carry on after The Lava and Ash.

Scott writes with passion and conviction, a divine sense of justice and righteousness. An engrossing read, The Lava and Ash is a reflection of a life lived in hard and unorthodox environs that toughened the author and left her with scars, yet instilled in her the value of goodness and peace in all their precious forms.

About the Author
Born in 1983, Sarah Scott began writing poems in the final year of Primary School, at age 11 and has been writing ever since. She has survived a life that has included homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, the lack of complete formal education and countless love affairs that have all left her with scars, tattoos and a hardened outer shell. Yet inside beats the heart of a passionate poet, still willing to observe the world and write it down after all these years.
