Daily media coverage is seemingly consumed with issues in the Middle East, and rightfully so. Author Sam A. Cohen said, "Colonialists created the Arab states hundreds of years ago without regard to the people's wishes. They have been suffering under dictatorships and are finally beginning to revolt and demand their freedom and dignity."

Cohen's new book, "Future of the Middle East - United Pan-Arab States: Divided by Imperialism, United by Destiny," looks at the history of our relationship with Middle Eastern states, the reasoning behind their current situation and a look into the future.

"A United Pan-Arab States, as envisioned in this book, would allow for the various clans, sects and mini-states that now precariously exist in the Middle East to belong and unite under one banner where each can maintain its respective identity while belonging to a structure that would serve them all," Cohen said. "Each religion would then have their own state within a united and interdependent whole. After all, the Jews lived and flourished among the Arabs and Muslims in harmony for at least 1,000 years."

Cohen mainly blames western interference for depleting resources and causing problems that could have been avoided. He even questions whether 9/11 and other similar events could have been prevented by a simple shift in our perception and policies.

"The Middle East will likely continue to be turbulent for several more decades," Cohen said. "However, the elements that will determine its long-term future are already in place. The road will be long but they will succeed in the end."
