'Hidden Figures' author, Margot Lee Shetterly, appeared at a book signing at Scuppernong Books in downtown Greensboro, where people came from all over to meet her and two other actors from the film production.
Tre Stokes, who plays a son in the movie, said, "Wow, I just met the author of the movie I was in!" He then added, "African American women are much smarter than you think."
The movie has earned Academy Award nominations for best picture, best supporting actress and best adapted screenplay.
Shetterly attended the book signing for 2½ hours while her husband, Aran Shetterly, sat at the coffee bar talking to fans about a book he is working on.

Margot Lee Shetterly is the author of Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race (William Morrow/HarperCollins). She is also the founder of The Human Computer Project, an endeavor that is recovering the names and accomplishments of all of the women who worked as computers, mathematicians, scientists and engineers at the NACA and NASA from the 1930s through the 1980s.
She is a Hampton, Virginia native, University of Virginia graduate, an entrepreneur, and an intrepid traveler who spent 11 years living in Mexico. She currently lives in Charlottesville, VA.
