S.T. Levin Pens New Historical Fiction, THE MEMOIRS OF SOCRATES

Implicitly drawing a comparison between his life in the U.S. and Socrates' life in Athens, author S.T. Levin began examining what he felt was a decline in America akin to the decline of ancient Greece. He began independently studying philosophy and history in an attempt to understand this cultural debacle. Levin's new book, "The Memoirs of Socrates: The Last Rational Man" (published by Archway Publishing), expresses Socrates' frustration in his recognition of the closing of the Athenian mind.
Socrates once said, "I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think."
This is the goal of Levin in his book - to get people thinking for themselves. Levin's book acts as historical fiction, assuming what Socrates might have said if he had left a memoir, but Levin assures readers that it is filled with historical facts. "The Memoirs of Socrates" is written from Socrates' perspective. Levin imagines Socrates recounting his 70 years of life and learning as he awaits his fate.
Levin hopes as people read what Socrates might have said about the state of affairs in Athens that they will notice a parallel between it and 21st century America. He believes the gradual decline of morality and society in Athens is mirrored in the similar decline in America from the post-World War II era to current times over a period of 70 years.
