A farm bums, blazing flames consume wooden walls and roof, which turn to ash amidst the red-orange fire. A plume of coal-black smoke drifts into the azure sky, marking the day when all was lost save for suffering, a day when lives were forever altered. In The Wineberg, S.D. Hill tells a gripping tale set in the stark landscapes of the untamed west, where a human drama plays out, with tribulations of passion, avengement, and romance in a desert of loss and grief.

In Calgutta, Texas, the lives of Rebecca Wineberg, Lorenzo Jenkins, Charlie Haden and Holt Wineberg intertwine whilst destiny drives them forward exigently. Behind them, are grievous memories of decisions and actions still affecting their present, heritages of greed and abuse, histories of violence refusing to be forgotten.

Readers will see them as they navigate through the bitterness of their existences, made barren by the pains of days past. They struggle not to succumb to the harsh realities they face ahead of them, and they strive to endure and make it to a distant sanctuary that promises a measure of love and forgiveness, but to do so they must let go of the past in order to find a future with any semblance of happiness.

The Wineberg is a western and a love story that offers action and is replete with twists and turns as it explores the human condition of its protagonists as they deal with the tumultous circumstances around them, as they struggle to live and let live in a turbulent world, where there is only a faint glimmer of hope in the moonless Texas sky.
