Author Rosa Elena Rentería's book, "Isabella" (published by Trafford Publishing), shocked audiences in 2011 with the true, heart wrenching story of a woman's terrifying experience in a human trafficking ring. This winter, "Isabella" will be showcased at the 2013 Guadalajara Book Fair to inspire a new collection of readers.
"Isabel's story has a great message," says Rentería. "After all she went through, she was able to step forward and reach out to success."
Written in Spanish, "Isabella" is based on a true story and Rentería's testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Growing up with a weak mother and terrifying father, Isabel dreams of a happy home with plenty of food and a father who isn't a drunk and selfish man. Everything, however, changes when her father sells her to an American man, who auctions her off in a human trafficking ring. Now trapped as a sex slave, her captors rename her Isabella, robbing her of her innocence and rightful name.
Isabel refuses to give up. Fighting her captors every step of the way, Isabel finally escapes them, but the outside world is nearly as treacherous as the one she left. It will take all of Isabel's strength and courage to overcome great obstacles, find true love and make her dream of being a doctor come true.
Rentería wanted to share her friend's story to reach out to other suffering victims of human trafficking. With Isabel's permission, she wrote the book. "Isabel is a very dear friend of mine," Rentería writes. "Our friendship has endured over time."
